Space Ace Frehley made Las Vegas a notable stop on his 11 date US tour, promoting his upcoming cd release Origins Vol 1 and ripping through a set list heavy on the KISS classics and touching on his solo efforts along the way. Vegas’ Brooklyn Bowl was packed with fans and a number of rock VIP’s coming out for the show, including members of Hellyeah, 5FDP and Vegas’ Blue Man Group spotted among the crowd.
Frehley took care of the vocals on the bulk of his solo and KISS standbys, but drummer and Vegas native Scot Coogan took the mic for “Love Gun” and “Detroit Rock City” and gave out a heartfelt tribute to fellow Vegas Blue Man drummer and colossal KISS fan Jason Mackenroth who passed away earlier this year. Accompanied by Coogan, guitarist Richie Scarlet (Frehley’s Comet) and Chris Wyse (The Cult) on bass, Frehley proved he is back in form, bringing back his legendary smoking guitar trick and his light up silver Gibson towards the end of the show, and nailing guitar solos for Shock Me” and “Deuce” for a climactic finale. Decades in and nearly a decade sober, Frehley proved he still has at least a few more aces up his sleeve.
Frehley has a new cd Origins Vol 1 due out April 15th, a collection of covers by artists that inspired the guitarist, Thin Lizzy’s “Emerald” being one track from the cd that Frehley performed live during the show. The cd includes a number of guest performers including Slash, Lita Ford, and John 5. Check it out HERE on Amazon.
